WITH many of us still recovering from splashing out over the festive season and new year shenanigans a reasonably-priced ‘drunch’ is just what the wallet doctor ordered. But while this Saturday fixture at Factory by McGettigan’s is helpful for the finances, it doesn’t skimp on the drinks and quirky style.

ONE of the region’s best-know entertainment destinations is open and greeting guests once again. Having had the previous season cut short by Covid-19, Global Village has unveiled its 25th anniversary year with all the safety precautions that we’ve come to expect. GLOBAL Village is such an unusual - if not unique - family attraction it is often a challenge to describe it to those who have never been.
With multicultural themes, products and costumes at its core, the sprawling Dubailand destination is home to a colourful mix of shopping, shows, food and culture from near and far. In fact, in spite of what the pandemic might have thrown its way, Global Village is back with an even bigger offer to the millions who usual pass through its gates each season. AMID much anticipation Dubai’s new indoor events, sports and entertainments venue - the Coca-Cola Arena – opens its doors this Friday. And you can be one of the first to tour this new landmark when staff throw open the doors to public tours.
THERE’S rarely a short supply of new F&B opportunities in Dubai – but few are quite as large as BFF. This new “gastro bar and lounge” is huge, but it’s also big on personality and welcome…as we found out.
KNIVES are sharpened, aprons pressed and pans polished as the final countdown to the 2019 Taste of Dubai festival gets underway. FOR anyone who enjoys a good feed – and a good time – this weekend brings together the best of both worlds.
Ahead of it opening this Thursday afternoon, we take a look at what this annual gathering has in store for visitors… FOR as long as mankind has been around shadows have evoked mystery and fear - or been used in simple entertainment. With global touring phenomenon Shadowland, audiences at Dubai World Trade Centre (tonight and Saturday) can enjoy a brief taste of how the use of light, darkness, dance and imagination can produce a timeless and genre-busting theatrical spectacle.
VINTAGE British cruise liner the QE2 and iftar may seem an unlikely pairing at a glance. But when you remember the Queen Elizabeth II – to give her the full title – is now resident in Dubai, it starts to make a little more sense. THE permanent mooring of the QE2 in Mina Rashid has certainly caught global interest.
And with the restored luxury liner now open to the public as a floating hotel, it is showcasing its unique attributes by serving its version of the fast-breaking supper. NOT content with powering one of Dubai’s best restaurants Nick Alvis and Scott Price have gone and created the kind of local pub away from home that some of us crave. Imagine a place that looks cool yet unpretentious, plays classic indie tunes from across the decades and has strategically-placed screens for all the key sporting action.
Oh, and serves high quality pub grub…welcome to The Lion by Nick & Scott. |
