KNIVES are sharpened, aprons pressed and pans polished as the final countdown to the 2019 Taste of Dubai festival gets underway.  FOR anyone who enjoys a good feed – and a good time – this weekend brings together the best of both worlds.

With global touring phenomenon Shadowland, audiences at Dubai World Trade Centre (tonight and Saturday) can enjoy a brief taste of how the use of light, darkness, dance and imagination can produce a timeless and genre-busting theatrical spectacle.

LA Perle is the most talked about addition to the UAE’s entertainment offering…and for very good reason.  Occasionally you might hear Dubai lazily described as the Las Vegas of the Middle East.
While several cultural and topographical aspects make that tag a little skewed, in La Perle the UAE city does have a resident destination show to match - if not rival - anything its USA ‘twin’ is likely to be serving up to visitors for a while. FEW hospitality ventures appear in the UAE without some kind of theme attached – and the marvellous Lapita is no exception.  POLYNESIAN AT THE PARKS: The Lapita breaks the Dubai hotel mould As the first hotel to open to directly serve Dubai Parks & Resorts, this Polynesian resort hotel is a perfect fit for the emirate’s evolving entertainment district.
IT’S a show that has raised the roof at Dubai Opera and possibly lifted the sale of umbrellas in the UAE – and this week its two leading characters went beyond the roof for a visit to a lofty neighbour.  HITTING THE HIGH NOTES: Leading cast members Zizi Strallen and Matt Lee strike a pose on the Burj Khalifa Mary Poppins is the longest-running show to occupy the classy Downtown Dubai venue since it opened its doors last year and - following the success of Les Miserables - confirms Dubai's appetite for musical theatre is very healthy indeed.
IF you’ve never caught the quirky but very entertaining phenomenon that is the Blue Man Group now the UAE finally has its chance.  WHEN SHALL WE THREE BEAT AGAIN: Blue Man Group in action One of the most innovative and enduringly successful shows to spring out of the United States - or anywhere for that matter - this is the first time one of the touring shows has made it to the Middle East.
