COOLER weather conditions are set to be with us a bit longer...and that means long bike rides, camping in the desert and outdoor brunches. We left our tent poles and cycle clips at home and opted for the latter, courtesy of UBK’s casual BBQ-driven offering.

WHEN you’ve got as many hotels opening in a city as Dubai has you need something special to stand out from the noise. Fortunately the Grand Plaza Mövenpick Media City has a couple of unique selling points, including a chandelier born to impress. Ahead of its official opening this Friday (March 1), MustDoDubai has been given a preview tour of this elegant yet sassy hotel in an evolving part of town…
AS any UAE brunch veteran will testify – the famous Friday feast presents itself in many varied forms. Re-awakened landmark hotel The Address Downtown has launched a rather smart affair with a firm eye on British fare. BEING a born and raised Briton, it has to be said our island nation isn’t always revered for its cuisine - although it is not without its celebrity chefs attempting to change that outlook.
But when our staple dishes are done well, plenty of expats will argue that our brief selection can be the ultimate comfort food. FEW people could claim to have driven across France in a Rolls Royce filled with cauliflowers - or brought their pet ocelot to lavish dinner parties. But Salvador Dali was no ordinary human being – and certainly beyond your average artist.
You have a few more weeks to discover why at a special exhibition in the UAE, celebrating his work and unique style, nearly 30 years after his death. YOU would have to have been in a cave the past week to not have noticed that the 2018 World Cup Finals is under way. And that means dozens of exciting choices when it comes to viewing your team – and others – in action across Dubai. We visited two venues to soak up the atmosphere. AFTER a month of hosting iftars the large ‘tent’ in the grounds of Emirates Golf Club has taken on a very different ambience since Eid was called.
VINTAGE British cruise liner the QE2 and iftar may seem an unlikely pairing at a glance. But when you remember the Queen Elizabeth II – to give her the full title – is now resident in Dubai, it starts to make a little more sense. THE permanent mooring of the QE2 in Mina Rashid has certainly caught global interest.
And with the restored luxury liner now open to the public as a floating hotel, it is showcasing its unique attributes by serving its version of the fast-breaking supper. BY all accounts The Courtyard at Manzil Downtown is a great place to dine al fresco at any time of the year. But with Ramadan very much underway, it proves to be an idyllic setting for iftar. EVEN if you’re not observing Ramadan the anticipation just before one of Dubai’s cannons fires to indicate sun down and the end of fasting is almost tangible at The Courtyard.
ONE thing Dubai is not short of this Ramadan is its range of iftar options. And, for some, that means the chance to try out new locations as they break their fast – or simply join in this special season. IF iftar is as much about rewarding yourself as it is refreshment and sustenance then the buffet at The St Regis Dubai scores well on all counts.
