Many of them come courtesy of daredevil visitors who opt to tackle and experience the 175m ‘flight’ over the main swimming pool area.
It is likely such unusual attractions caught the attention of judges at the World Travel Awards, which recently crowned this destination as Oman’s Leading Family Resort during a ceremony in Abu Dhabi.
The location of the awards was apt for such a handover, seeing as the UAE accounts for 250-300 of the resort’s guests per month.
For couples that can spell romantic walks on the waters edge for undisturbed miles. For families, it’s a chance to unwind within a safe and easy to navigate resort with as much or as little to do as you like.
Besides the aerial thrill, there’s a floating water park - Aqua Fun - an 18-hole mini-golf course, tennis courts, and five swimming pools, one of which is exclusive to families, along with a kids play area.
Millennium Resort Mussanah offers 308 spacious rooms, plus “lavishly decorated serviced apartments”, many facing a 54-berth marina and the ocean beyond.
Several of the food and beverage outlets offer a similar view. That includes Al Bahar Restaurant with it’s a la carte fusion of Moroccan, Indian and Far Eastern cuisine, and Azure, where you’ll find southern European, eastern Mediterranean and North African dishes.
General manager Dermot Birchall confirms his resort is popular with UAE visitors, not least now Dubai is less than five hours away (passport checks allowing). Thanks to the new Al Batinah Expressway, linking the border road to Muscat - an hour away - the drive has been made considerably easier and safer.
“Many take advantage of our short stay offers during the holidays,” says the GM, citing 50% of the hotel’s year-round business as from GCC.
“Alongside this our key markets are France, Germany, UK and Italy, where most of our clients are visiting for five to seven nights. They are looking for a mix of Arabian cultural experiences and a resort holiday experience, so the property works very well.
“The resort is uniquely situated between two fishing villages and offers 12 excursions to historic and cultural points of interest - and a truly Arabian experience; with over 50% of our workforce Omani, the sense of welcome is tangible.”
To help guests and families budget for their stay, Millennium Resort Mussanah recently introduced the Platinum All-Inclusive Package - of benefit to those staying for more than three nights.
This includes unlimited food and beverages across all restaurants and bars and guests can also avail limitless access to the water park, zip-line and other leisure facilities.
“We invite residents and guests from neighbouring countries to take advantage of our all-inclusive getaway package,” continues Dermot, declaring it “a great way to save money”.
Going all-inclusive also gives access to the resort’s spacious, modern gym as well as spa, sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi options.
And if you’re feeling a little more adventurous, Millennium Resort Mussanah Oman has an on-site PADI certified diving and snorkeling centre, which can act as a gateway to discovering underwater experiences, including scuba diving.
The resort has two dive boats, with a snorkeling vessel set to arrive in October, and daily excursions to the Daminyat Islands.
Also in the pipeline is further beautification work on the beachfront and recreation area with cabanas and more to compliment the recently opened Beach Garden.
“As a result of guest feedback we have added a year-round car hire service, with an inventory of 12 vehicles on-site, including 4X4,” adds Dermot.
“We will commence shuttle services to the newly opened Mall of Muscat, including the 8,000 Sqm Oman Aquarium, as well as the historic town of Nizwa, where guests can experience an authentic souk, and visit the famous Nizwa Fort.”
After all that, resort-wide complimentary fast Wi-Fi connection allows you to show off to family and friends what you’ve been up to via your favoured social media channels.
STAY at Millennium Resort Mussanah Oman from AED 409 per night, per Deluxe Room (without breakfast). THIS is based on two people checking in for two nights on June 7.
