The trendy hangout was a staple beach/pool day and dining attraction for many long-term residents until it closed and was flattened to make way for new development.
Now the site, just off The Walk, is beginning to take shape again ahead of a major addition to the ocean-fronting dining and retail thoroughfare.
The Corinthia At Meydan Beach is due to open in 2019 and will be five-star hotel chain Corinthia’s first entry into the Middle Eastern market.
The design features a stepped podium wrapping around lavish, landscaped pools and gardens cascading onto the beach, and offers extensive indoor and outdoor leisure and dining facilities, a luxury spa, a club and banqueting amenities.
A 55-storey tower, comprising residential apartments, bedrooms, suites and entertainment zones, will sit atop one side of the podium, commanding views of some of the most spectacular sights in Dubai.
The Corinthia lies close to Movenpick Hotel Jumeirah Beach and neighbours the new Rixos Jumeirah Beach, another significant build on the sought-after stretch of waterfront, due to open soon.
Corinthia Hotels has signed agreements with UAE-based Meydan Group to provide technical services and manage the luxury beachfront resort. Meydan Hotels & Hospitality, meanwhile, is the company behind the Bab Al Shams luxury desert resort and The Meydan Hotel, which flanks the racecourse host venue for the Dubai World Cup.
The JBR project is the latest in a series of mega developments being undertaken by Meydan Group, which include large scale mixed-use urban and leisure developments across various prime locations in Dubai.
"Our core business is the global management of horse racing, as well as large scale mixed use real estate developments in Dubai," says Meydan Board Director Mohammed Al Shehhi.
"With Corinthia as our hospitality partner, we continue to complement our array of capabilities in ensuring world class delivery of products and services, with our flagship beachside development as a starting point.”
