HERE'S the first glimpse of an iconic UAE structure given the unique LEGO treatment for a much anticipated new Dubai theme park.
GRAND SCALE: A UAE icon has been recreated for LEGOLAND Dubai
Plenty of patience went into constructing this very lifelike model of Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque as an emirates-themed taster for LEGOLAND Dubai's Miniland section.
LEGOLAND Dubai is part of one of the largest integrated theme park destinations in the region - Dubai Parks and Resorts - set to open on October 31.
Ms. Amal Bamatraf, Director of Culture Communication & Activities Department, revealed that 536,292 LEGO bricks went into the realistic rendition, demanding more than 6,300 hours to complete and weighing approximately 1,323 kilograms.
The real thing, in Abu Dhabi, remains a huge tourist draw, as well as an important place of worship. It celebrates 10 years of operation in 2017.
Some 30 contractors and 30,000 workers were involved in completing various elements of the structure and decoration with materials sourced from many countries including Greece, Italy, Germany, China, India and Morocco.
The creative harmony and the outstanding integration between the Islamic and modern architectural styles made it a great model for architectural design.
“Having a LEGO model of the mosque in LEGOLAND Dubai will play a vital role in introducing the mosque as a cultural and touristic destination among the visitors as well as residents," says H.E. Yousif Al Obaidli, Director General of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre.
“The mosque, besides being an Islamic and cultural edifice, is also considered to be one of the most important touristic destinations in the UAE and the region due to its unique design, amazing decorations and ornaments."
