SOME of Dubai’s most famous golfing real estate will get global exposure again this week - but as a backdrop to some of the planet’s best-known cyclists.
ROLLING HILLS: Cyclists will have Jumeirah Golf Estates as part of their Dubai Tour route
British two-wheel heroes Mark Cavendish - the 2015 Dubai Tour champion - and Tour de France winner Sir Bradley Wiggins are among competitors in the Dubai Tour, which passes through Jumeirah Golf Estates during stage two.
Now in its third year, Dubai Tour is considered a classic event in the early cycling calendar, with 16 teams and international cycling stars set to participate.
The first stage begins on February 3 with the four-day race taking in some of the emirate’s most famous landmarks as riders head from Dubai International Marine Club - starting point for each stage - to the emirate of Fujairah (179km).
On February 4, the athletes hit the tarmac of the city’s golfing suburbia and the neighbourhoods of Jumeirah Golf Estate; host to the DP World Tour Championship courses Fire & Earth and an official partner of the Dubai Tour. That second stage of the race will end up at Atlantis on Palm Jumeirah and puts participants to the test in a 188km race.

Day three is a 172km-tester to Hatta Dam while day four clocks up 137km on a route to Business Bay.
A recent report by Deloitte revealed that sport has a direct economic impact of $421m in Dubai, with events such as Dubai Tour a lead contributor to the sector.
“Whilst golf contributes around 30 percent of the total direct economic impact in Dubai, Jumeirah Golf Estates is proud to further contribute to the region’s sports economy by partnering with the Dubai Tour,” says Jumeirah Golf Estates CEO Yousuf Kazim.
“As host venue for the DP World Tour Championship for seven consecutive years, Jumeirah Golf Estates is firmly established as a global sporting venue, drawing a record number of international sports fans year-on-year. The Dubai Tour provides a fantastic opportunity to further showcase to the wider sporting world.”

SPECTATORS wishing to view the action on the day can welcome the riders to Jumeirah Golf Estates at the Al Fay Road entrance, as they cycle on towards the Clubhouse.
Dubai International Marina Club will host a fan village, open 9am until 3.30pm.
