TOO many of us have been spending far too much time glued to our laptops and not enough getting out for the night courtesy of the dreaded C word. But a combination of easing restrictions and sensible promoters has enabled live comedy to return to the UAE after months of pandemic-induced inactivity. AFTER hundreds of folk laughed out loud for the first time in a while last month, The Laughter Factory unleashes another tour, beginning this Thursday.
It has imported three well-travelled mirth merchants to spread japery across Dubai and Abu Dhabi, including fierce humour honcho Stephen Carlin (pictured above). FOR years Analog Room has been a saviour, a blessing and a trailblazer for disenfranchised music fans seeking something beyond the commercially obvious and profit-driven conventional. But after a transient and sometimes infrequent existence, the iconic Dubai clubbing ‘brand’ is enjoying life in its permanent address. WORD of mouth has long driven the success of Analog Room as a roaming live music and DJ club night.
It’s been almost a case of ‘if it matters to you, you’ll find and follow it’. So, in almost typical fashion it’s first permanent home is inside a discreet space at the rear of an Al Barsha hotel. A fashionable black facade greets visitors and the hotel website gives no clues. So far, so hidden away... ANOTHER trio of mirth merchants has been dispatched across the UAE under the Laughter Factory umbrella...and you can catch the final few nights of the tour this week.
It may be November but Oktoberfest continues at Media City’s glamourous hotel newcomer. With its brand group heart in Europe it should, perhaps, be no surprise that Grand Plaza Mövenpick Media City would host its take on the German hops-based extravaganza – still available until the weekend.
FOR 23 years Gail Clough and her team of mirth merchants have been giving the UAE the giggles. As The Laughter Factory chalks up another anniversary, it has a trio of comics ready to blow out some candles. NO matter what is going on with Brexit and the weather the UK has always supplied the world with great and promising comedians.
