COMEDY curator Gail Lough has been counting down the weeks to when she could polish the mic, so to speak, and revive her stand-up mission in the UAE.
While frustratingly unable to bring a cavalcade of comics to the stage every month since Covid-19 gripped the planet, the Manchester miss hasn’t been idle.
In between keeping in touch with the Factory faithful via social media, she’s been seeking out the talent for when live nights were able to return. In fact, she says the line-ups are "fully booked to the end of 2021”.
“During the lockdown, the Laughter Factory has been working tirelessly to punch above their weight and sign some of the best talent in the comedy world,” she says.
And some of that lands tomorrow at Movenpick JBR for two nights on the It’s time to test Positive, for Happiness tour.
“Unless you are Jeff Bezos, I think we can quite safely say we have never been more in need of a good laugh.”
Dublin’s Danny O’Brien (pictured top) makes his debut here after performing stand-up for more than a decade with a friendly, high energy and anecdotal style.
Danny has won the coveted Toilet Duck Award at Tedfest - the Father Ted celebration - and went global with his solo show last year, ironically titled Lock-In.
Critics have hailed him a “force of nature”, a “born storyteller” and a “perfect mix of brains, banter and brilliance”.
That could prove an interesting mix for Nick Page (pictured above), another storytelling comic armed with outlandish tales of a life lived laughing from disaster to disaster.
“He's definitely one of those people you shouldn't like, but do,” says Gail. “He has an enviable gag rate, with each story and routine filled with set ups, call backs and devastating punchlines.”
A London-based Irish Times columnist and radio regular, he seeks to pair a bit of depth with some perfectly crafted jokes.
Under the current directives, all gigs on this tour will be table service with food compulsory with the drinks.
