IN a city always on the look out for the next big thing the Sheraton Dubai Creek Hotel & Towers is a symbol of timeless hospitality. It is also something of a re-assuring constant in an ever-changing leisure landscape. That doesn’t mean to say this queen of the Creek is either resting on its laurels and standing still...

ONE thing you are unlikely to leave Tete with is an empty stomach... For this new Lebanese-Brazilian restaurant likes to feed its visitors…well.
DUBAI has a knack of 'transporting' us to other locations without leaving the city...a place that has a habit of making us feel like we are somewhere else for a day or an evening. Distillery is arguably one such venue, combining the edgy stripped back setting of a New Orleans speakeasy or a New York warehouse with the kind of hospitality we’ve come to expect of Dubai.
THE Grayton Hotel is rightly raising a few eyebrows in Al Mankhool. And not only because it is that rarest of additions to Bur Dubai…a boutique hotel.
For this new name on the city’s hospitality landscape isn’t using the B-word simply because of its size… IF you consider the notion of eating an entire meal in complete darkness a little strange, then imagine throwing in a convincing Halloween theme. One new bright and breezy brunch takes that a little further by getting you to imagine that you are in the fresh air and cool climate of an Alpine resort... OKAY, it is something of a big ask to picture yourself in such a scenario - surrounded by snow with pine trees quivering in an icy breeze - when it is hot enough to fry an egg outside.
IF it’s good enough for Sean Connery, Elvis and Marilyn... THERE are a few famous faces at the sassy new restaurant, bar and generally rather cool hang-out Phoenix Social Club.
Okay, so the iconic celebs that include the original James Bond and the King of Rock ’n’ Roll are actually large portraits looking down alongside Elisabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe and Breakfast at Tiffany’s legend Audrey Hepburn from the walls of this new venue, but you can’t help thinking they would frequent such a place… THERE’S a small booth beside the TRYP by Wyndham Dubai lobby dedicated to explaining the hotel’s considerable green credentials. On the wall one of several framed statements proclaims the banishing of PET plastic from the 650-room property will reduce the number of water bottles used in a year by a staggering 306,630.
“Imagine the effect if every hotel in Dubai did the same,” says hotel general manager Jo-Ella Moore. |
