The Sunset Brunch at Pure Sky Lounge & Dining gives you both of those as day slips gracefully into night.
AMONG the many things Dubai does well are great views and wonderful food. The Sunset Brunch at Pure Sky Lounge & Dining gives you both of those as day slips gracefully into night. We check out a classic Dubai dining experience - and discover it continues to be exactly that and more.

THERE’S rarely a short supply of new F&B opportunities in Dubai – but few are quite as large as BFF. This new “gastro bar and lounge” is huge, but it’s also big on personality and welcome…as we found out.
COOLER weather conditions are set to be with us a bit longer...and that means long bike rides, camping in the desert and outdoor brunches. We left our tent poles and cycle clips at home and opted for the latter, courtesy of UBK’s casual BBQ-driven offering.
AS any UAE brunch veteran will testify – the famous Friday feast presents itself in many varied forms. Re-awakened landmark hotel The Address Downtown has launched a rather smart affair with a firm eye on British fare. BEING a born and raised Briton, it has to be said our island nation isn’t always revered for its cuisine - although it is not without its celebrity chefs attempting to change that outlook.
But when our staple dishes are done well, plenty of expats will argue that our brief selection can be the ultimate comfort food. YOU would have to have been in a cave the past week to not have noticed that the 2018 World Cup Finals is under way. And that means dozens of exciting choices when it comes to viewing your team – and others – in action across Dubai. We visited two venues to soak up the atmosphere. AFTER a month of hosting iftars the large ‘tent’ in the grounds of Emirates Golf Club has taken on a very different ambience since Eid was called.
VINTAGE British cruise liner the QE2 and iftar may seem an unlikely pairing at a glance. But when you remember the Queen Elizabeth II – to give her the full title – is now resident in Dubai, it starts to make a little more sense. THE permanent mooring of the QE2 in Mina Rashid has certainly caught global interest.
And with the restored luxury liner now open to the public as a floating hotel, it is showcasing its unique attributes by serving its version of the fast-breaking supper. NOT content with powering one of Dubai’s best restaurants Nick Alvis and Scott Price have gone and created the kind of local pub away from home that some of us crave. Imagine a place that looks cool yet unpretentious, plays classic indie tunes from across the decades and has strategically-placed screens for all the key sporting action.
Oh, and serves high quality pub grub…welcome to The Lion by Nick & Scott. BRUNCHES come in all shapes, sizes and colours in Dubai - seemingly hundreds with scores of themes designed to catch your eye. But The City Brunch puts the focus firmly back on the stuff that matters, namely good food and refreshments in a family-friendly environment where you can really socialise. It might sound odd that at some brunches the grub comes secondary to the liquids – and you can actually go home hungry - but it does happen.
However, there’s little chance of that happening at The Westin - Al Habtoor City which draws on the other hotel kitchens in the development - W Dubai and St Regis - to fuel a special culinary adventure. |
